Beginning of 2025 in the studio

started the year off with a big tidy of the studio. came across a bunch of paper ephemera that were gifted to me by an artist friend. i love aged paper. this find led me to some collaging. i painted some of the found paper and paired them with old works. over time i have been painting on cardboard off cuts. i threw these in the mix too. i enjoyed finding poetic juxtapositions in the collages. my love for bright colours continues.

unfolding

Unfolding is a conversation between two artists exploring the creative process, intuition, trust and the relinquishing of control. It is an investigation into what happens when boundaries are reimagined, and individual ownership disappears, where intersections are no longer markers of separation but serve to tell a new narrative of collaboration and connection.

Over eight months in 2023, every week Kerrie Satava and I swapped various canvases back and forth, each responding to the other’s colours, marks and movements. With every swap the works evolved, eventually blurring the line between one artist’s touch and another’s. Pushing the conversation even further, we cut and reassembled many of these paintings creating something entirely new. Often finding that in this alchemy of incongruence, poetic juxtapositions emerged. We then asked Chat GPT to contribute, assigning AI the task of creating titles for each of the paintings, resulting in a dialogue that spans from the individual to the collective.

Unfolding was shown at Airspace Project Space, Marrickville in February/March 2024.
